Wound care after an operation

Wound care after an operation

Wound care protocols differ from surgeon to surgeon, as not every surgeon uses the same techniques. Also, there are regional differences in dealing with surgical wounds.

What follows here, applies only to operations by Dr. Tariq Shadid.

What is also important, is that if Dr. Tariq has given you different instructions, you should follow those rather than these guidelines. This article is only meant to help you remember the instructions. If you have any doubts, be sure to send a Whatsapp message and ask your question.

Important: if there is redness around the wound and pain, your wound may be infected, and you must contact Dr. Tariq. As we always work under maximum sterile conditions, wound infections are rare, but they can still occur. The best thing to do if you have doubts, is to send a Whatsapp to your doctor (if you are reading this on a mobile phone, you can do this with one click on the Whatsapp icon at the bottom of the page).

There are four types of surgical wounds in this article. Click on one of the items below to look at:

  1. Sutures that dissolve by themselves
  2. Sutures that require removal
  3. Wounds that have been left open
  4. Burns

If your wound doesn’t fall under one of these categories, just follow the instructions that Dr. Tariq has given to you.
